Letter: Support for candidates

Jon Tarrant | The Sentinel

To continue Carlisle’s constructive governance, we should elect the nonpartisan slate of: Sue Bower, Stephen Brousse, Anne Lauritzen and Amanda Rudy in the May 20 Democratic and Republican primary. They will act with experience, integrity and respect for all.

Two years ago an interesting phenomenon occurred. Several Central PA school boards were infiltrated, or even overtaken, by extremists funded by Moms for Liberty, Take Back Our Schools and national ultra conservative groups.

The citizens of Carlisle successfully resisted this assault and elected a nonpartisan, pro-education board by a substantial majority.

Consequently, the Carlisle Area School District has been able to continue to provide a quality education for all students despite state and national underfunding of public schools. As a former teacher and current board member, I’m aware of characteristics that attract applicants to our district including a well functioning administration and supportive governing board. A side effect is that the CASD has been able to hire talented administrators and teachers (even from other districts) who are anxious to escape the management of “cultural warrior” boards. We are proud of our district’s accomplishments.

To continue Carlisle’s constructive governance, we should elect the nonpartisan slate of: Sue Bower, Stephen Brousse, Anne Lauritzen and Amanda Rudy in the May 20 Democratic and Republican primary. They will act with experience, integrity and respect for all.

Jon Tarrant

Carlisle Area School Board member
